Can you tell I'm crazy about living in Denver? Half my blog posts mention something about it either in my title or in the text itself.
Today, there were four major reasons why I love Denver.
1 - Amazing people. Nancy and I are staying with our friend Jennifer who graciously opened up her home to us while we're waiting for our own apartment to open up. Her cute five-year-old son is a blast and totally adorable.
2 - I was out in the sun for only an hour and tanned beautifully. No painful burn, no pasty white, but a soft glow of summer sun dusted onto my shoulders and face. Wonderful!!
3 - .... I totally forgot. This may have something to do with the fact that it's 2am right now.... just a thought.
4 - DANCING!! This is the real reason why I'm writing this post. For those of you who've gone to dances with me, you know that dancing is like a drug to me. As long as the music is playing, I'm moving. If people are there, great. If not, that's cool too. Tonight I almost bailed on the group that was planning to go downtown, but thought "Just go.... it might be fun." And fun it was.
We went to a 'cowboy' type dance lounge in the heart of Denver - and literally it felt like the heart. The music pumped from the speakers and into my veins. Its rhythm ran through my soul and beckoned me through the doors and towards the dance floor. I stood by the bar for a moment and surveyed the dance floor, it was sparse, but the energy was good and lighting was appropriate...."but are you telling me those are the best moves you've got?" I thought. "Oh, come on.... Mormon's can dance WAY better than this lot!" And so it was, the group of ten or so girls I was with stormed the dance floor and rocked out till we wanted to hurl.
At some point as I scanned the crowd it occurred to me.... "Most people here need to be drunk to dance or feel like they're having a good time. Mormon's don't. We just know how to have a great time, AND remember it in the morning!" It made the evening so much more enjoyable knowing that I would remember the awesome time I had with my girl friends, that I had left in time to honor the Sabbath, and that I had remained above reproach.
It's a land mark moment for me - Living up to the status of a Returned Missionary *and* doing one of the things I love the most.
